About

Hi – and welcome!

My name is Shannon – I’m a photographer, adventurer, lover of travel (wine, music, art, design, architecture, shoes, dogs, books, hiking – ohmygosh – I could go on!) and I’m completely obsessed with the aging process and how to fight it naturally and healthily.

In December 2007, I began my first blog, Venus in Combat Boots. Venus was about gender support – a platform to share stories and anecdotes about what it’s like being a girl in this world. Well, I began to broaden the scope of that blog to such a degree that I turned into a full time polemic so immersed in the goings-on of the political and financial realms, that I fell off my intended track: Girl Power. Last year, I let the domain go and, with it, about four or five years of content.

Time for a fresh start!

Fab Over Forty Five is sort of bringing me full circle. I’ve spent years researching beauty, health, and food sources and am discovering how a good diet of balanced, healthy, and organic foods in concert with a sensible beauty regimen can really impact how a woman feels as she’s navigating the aging process.

Society is quick to make us invisible when we’re no longer young and cute, but there are a lot of women out there setting fantastic examples for those of us who are no longer in our 30s (or even early 40s) but not ready for a nursing home yet, either. My grandmother was my primary role model for aging gracefully – she was a rock star. And my rock. “)

Here, I will share my thoughts on different beauty products, fashion, and health-related issues that might be of interest to other women struggling to find their footing in this new territory. I find that there’s not much conversation being had about this phase of life and wonder if it’s because we’re embarrassed by what we’re experiencing, too busy to do anything about it, or simply resigned to it.

As I mentioned in my first post, I’ve tried hundreds of products in order to find things that feel right on my new skin, hair, and body. Much like we outgrow baby shampoo as tots, we outgrow the products we’ve relied on in our 20s and 30s; it’s not a bad thing – it’s just different. Learning to adapt is the key to embracing your gorgeous self in, what I think, are the best years of life.

I will share what I’ve learned – what works (for me), what doesn’t – with the intention of saving you time, money, and frustration. Mine isn’t the final word – only you can know what works best for you, but maybe you’ll find a nugget or two of helpful information along the way.

Thank you for joining me here and feel free to email me with any comments or questions!

Here’s to good health, beauty, and fabulosity –
Shannon
